Update to Alwyndor’s response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) - 23 June 2020

Dear Alwyndor community

As you are aware we regularly review our approach in response to the restrictions imposed by COVID-19, taking into account Federal and State requirements and local needs, with our focus always being on keeping our residents & staff safe.

Visits have increased over recent weeks and we know that this has a positive impact on all at Alwyndor and we are pleased to see the restrictions continuing to ease.

Consistent with most recent Emergency Management (Residential Aged Care Facilities No 6) (COVID-19) Direction (released Saturday 21 June 2020), we are pleased to advise that as of Tuesday 30 June 2020 our revised visiting times will be:

    • Tuesday to Friday 9.30am - 6.00pm. Reception will be open until 6.00pm to accommodate signing in however we do ask that all visits are finished by 7.30pm to allow residents to settle into their nightly routine. A code for the key pad will be provided to allow you to exit Alwyndor at the main entrance or Dorsch Street.
    • Saturday 9.30am – 3.30pm.

Memory support visitors will be asked to enter via the front entrance and sign in and then continue through to their visit. Please note that for interim security purposes we are not enabling use of the back gates.

Visits continue to be restricted to 2 visitors per resident per day in resident’s rooms, Alwyndor Gardens or Dorothy’s Café.

Residents are now able to leave Alwyndor for social leave. I know that there are some residents and their loved ones who will be over the moon at this news as they have missed their social outings. We ask that you keep these outgoings to times consistent with our visiting hours.

Please note that group outings are still not permitted.

We are welcoming interstate visitors if they have come from low community transmission zones - Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland and Tasmania however interstate visitors from Victoria and New South Wales are not able to visit without 14 days isolation.

Children under 16 are allowed to visit Alwyndor once again, and babies under 6 months may attend without influenza vaccinations.

Access will continue to be through the main entrance on Dunrobin Road and the following conditions will continue to apply:

  • Evidence of 2020 flu vaccination is required (under 6 months old exempt)
  • Temperature checks will be taken
  • Questions regarding health and travel will be asked
  • Visitors must continue to abide by social distancing rules ie minimum of 1.5m distance from others.

We ask that you please keep your visits within the areas mentioned above and to the required timeframes with behaviours to respect the wellbeing of both our residents and staff. We are very mindful of surge and spread of COVID-19 in Victoria these past few days and continue to do all we can to ensure we all stay safe here at Alwyndor.

On another note, our regular groups and services have been re-introduced and while social distancing must be maintained, it is wonderful to see so many happy smiling faces back at Alwyndor. Our community has been missed and it is great to see Alwyndor returning to its usual vibrancy.

As always, the best interests of your families and loved ones is at the core of our business and our provision of care. Thank you all for your continued patience as we work through these times and the ever changing regulations and your flexibility as we adapt is appreciated by all staff. Alwyndor is legally required to manage the number of visitors at any given time as well as in a resident’s room. Adhering to the ongoing guidelines will assist us greatly in managing this.

As I’ve previously noted no decision making is perfect and we continue to do our very best to ensure that your loved ones are happy and remain engaged and well.

We will be in touch again when restrictions change next and if you have any queries please feel free as always to contact myself, Graham Harding (Residential Services Manager) or the Customer Care Team on 8177 3200 or email

Yours sincerely,

Beth Davidson-Park
General Manager
