Alwyndor has been a much-loved part of the community for more than 75 years, supporting older people across the City of Holdfast Bay and surrounding areas to live and age well. It's a legacy we are incredibly proud of, and one we are committed to carrying forward for generations to come.
To ensure we can continue to grow and meet the evolving needs of our community, the City of Holdfast Bay is making a change to the way Alwyndor is governed. Council has resolved to establish an Incorporated Association, Alwyndor Inc, to act as Trustee of the Dorothy Cheater Trust.
The change is consistent with specialist independent aged care, governance, legal and prudential advice undertaken by Council over the last 18-months. That advice established that a more contemporary governance model was required to ensure Alwyndor is well positioned to respond to the increasingly dynamic and competitive environment, aged care reforms, the new Aged Care Act and support the growing needs of its communities.
Where previously Alwyndor was governed by a Management Committee of Council, it will be governed by a Board of Directors, retaining a similar structure with up to nine independent members, two of whom may be nominated by the Council.
The independent members of the current Alwyndor Management Committee have agreed to serve on the inaugural board, including Kim Cheater (grandson of Dorothy Cheater) as Chair, providing continuity through this transition.
For our residents, clients and their families, nothing changes. The same friendly faces will continue to deliver the same high quality, personalised care that Alwyndor is known and loved for.
Alwyndor remains what it has always been, a proud not-for-profit aged care provider, guided by the same purpose, legacy and intent it has held for more than 75 years.
