The new Aged Care Act begins on 1 November 2025

We assure all clients and residents that you will continue to be at the centre of our services and have the quality of life you deserve.

As we implement the new Act we will continue to ensure you:

  • make your own decisions about your own life
  • choose if you want help making decisions, and choose who will give you that help
  • make it easier to access care through a more streamlined assessment process
  • make it clearer about what you can, and should, expect when receiving services
  • have your culture, language and traditions respected
  • receive fair and equitable access to services
  • receive services from our employees who have the knowledge, skills and experience
  • have options to give us your feedback.

What is new

The new Act includes a Statement of Rights for all aged care clients and residents.

If you live in your home, the new Support at Home program gives you access to services, products, equipment and home modifications. This will help you live independently and safely, and to stay in your home as long as you choose.

What will happen to your care

  • if you are receiving care, it will continue without interruption.
  • if you receive care through the Home Care Package program or Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) Program, you will automatically move to Support at Home.
  • Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) clients will transition to the Support at Home program no earlier than mid-2027.
  • you will not need to be reassessed, unless your needs have changed.
  • if you’re seeking aged care services from 1 November, visit My Aged Care or call 1800 200 422.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can speak with an Elder Care Support worker if they need help accessing aged care.

We will continue to communicate with everyone in our care—our clients, residents, next of kin, and carers — to help navigate any changes as the Act progresses in implementation.

If you have any concerns or questions or need help understanding anything at all relating to the changes we are here to help as always.
