Strong and Steady

If you would like to improve your balance, leg strength and fitness, this is the group for you. Using a circuit format, our Strong and Steady group will help to get you feeling strong and confident.

Who is this group for?

  • People who have issues with balance
  • People who walk with/without a walking aid
  • People without cognitive impairment or those who have mild cognitive impairment
  • People able to move independently between stations
  • People who may have attended Upright for Life and require further balance work

What happens in the group?

Your group class will be led by one of our trained therapists. In the group you will participate in:

  • Standing aerobic warm-up (+/- holding chair)
  • Circuit activities incorporating balance, strength and fitness stations
  • Balloon, ball and Chi Ball balance work included in warm down
  • Input from a physiotherapist about individual balance issues
  • Sessional input from a podiatrist about impact of foot problems and footwear on balance and falls prevention

  • Wednesday 9.30am -10.30am

  • Requires initial assessment with a physiotherapist
  • Group leader is physiotherapist
  • Group is short term (generally ten weeks)

All clients will have a review with the physiotherapist after ten weeks attendance which incorporates planning for ongoing exercise either through a group or home exercise program

Who is eligible for Therapy and Wellness services?

Therapy and Wellness Services funded through the Department of Health are for people who are over 65, no longer working and who have registered with My Aged Care.

Private services are available to anyone.

What type of referral do I need for Therapy and Wellness services?

We accept referrals from My Aged Care for funded services through the Department of Health. We accept GPs, medical specialists, other allied health professionals, carers and self referrals for private services.

What happens if I am unable attend the class?

If you are booked in for a class and can’t attend, you must let us know so the place can be given to another client.

If we don’t hear from you after 4 weeks, you will be placed on the “Waitlist” if:

  • There is non-attendance in a class for 4 weeks or more without notification.
  • If you have advised us you will be away for more than 4 weeks in a row.
  • If you are unwell and cannot attend and this stops you from attending 4 weeks in a row.

When you are ready to return to your class, PLEASE contact Customer Care to discuss your position on the waitlist, as just turning up may result in being turned away if the class is already full.

Do I need to make a booking for therapy or group wellness sessions?

Yes, bookings are required. If you require an urgent appointment, please contact our Customer Care Team on 8177 3200 and we can do our best to fit you in at the earliest time available.

What do I need to bring to a group class?

For our groups, all equipment is supplied. It is recommended to bring a water bottle to keep hydrated and a towel if you prefer.

If there is something specific you are required to bring our Therapy and Wellness team will contact you.

If you are a private client, your private health care card will be required upon payment.

We request that all clients bring their Medicare cards with them for their first visit.

How much does a class/session cost?

Fees will vary depending on whether you are a private client or receive government subsidies.
